Project description:

The Randstad 380kV project of TenneT TSO consists of a new 380kV high voltage connection between Wateringen – Bleiswijk – Vijfhuizen and Beverwijk in the Netherlands. The new connection will form a ring structure together with the existing high voltage connections. These are called “Noordring” and “Zuidring” The Noordring will be realized between Bleiswijk and Beverwijk; the Zuidring is currently operational and located between Wateringen and Bleiswijk. The Zuidring has a length of about 21 km of which 11 km is executed with underground high voltage cables. This connection was operational in the first quarter of 2013. The Noordring has a length of about 60 km of which 9 km will be implemented with underground high voltage cables. In 2013 – 2014, the engineering and tendering process were conducted. The realization will take place from 2015 to 2018. Special feature for this project are the large aluminium conductors for the 380kV cables which were developed by Prysmain Cables ans Systems.

Activities of Energy Solutions:

Both for Noordring as Zuidring, Energy Solutions delivered a substantial contribution to the projects. The following activities were performed in cooperation with TenneT TSO:

Sub-project Zuidring:

  • Design of cable routes
  • Basic design of the connections and outdoor connection points
  • Technical support for the tender process for the high voltage cable connection.
  • Project support during the, engineering, realization phase and commissioning/testing of the high voltage connection.

Sub-project Noordring:

  • Design of cable routes
  • Basic design of the connections and outdoor connection points
  • Detailed design, including lightning protection and short circuit force calculations, of the expansion of 380kV substation Oostzaan
  • Technical support for the tender process for the civil subcontractors and high voltage cable.
  • Technical support of the TenneT project team for cables, accessories, earthing system and outdoor connection points
  • Tender document for the reconstruction of 150kV substation Sassenheim
  • Technical support during the realization phase of the project
